CASCADE premiere
Guitar Foundation of America has awarded our school with a Grant that was given to the three best High School Classical Guitar programs in the NATION! :)
On Friday March 1st, one of the country's most accomplished Classical guitarists, Martha Masters http://www.marthamasters.com/biography.html
is coming to do workshops & a masterclass as well as hear and clinic CASCASDE, (composed by Omid Zoufonoun http://omidzoufonoun.com/80-2/) a work that was composed for us as a part of this grant. During 6th period (which is one of my guitar classes) she has offered to do a Concert and Q&A for all of VAPA's Classical guitar students in our theater.
On March 20th, during our Spring Concert, Students will premiere CASCADE!

Multi-media SONG WRITER's Showcase
Don't miss out on students compositions that feature student created Visual representations of the music as well as stellar live performances. The students have composed songs from a variety of genres from Electronic music to Flamenco.
The Showcase will be held in the Black Box on Thursday May 24th at 7pm. Tickets are only $3 and CDs of the students work will be available for purchase as well.

music Academy Takes Heritage Sweepstakes Award!
Congratulations to all of the students that performed in this year's Heritage Tour in San Diego
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating and a festival award for highest scoring ensemble!
- Jazz Combo received a Gold Rating! & William Cabison best soloist for his Piano performance
- Women's Chorus Received a Gold Rating & First Place
- Advanced Guitar Received a Gold Rating and the Adjudicator's Award for Instrumental Ensembles
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating
- Concert Choir received a Gold Rating and Taylor Washington best soloist for his piano accompaniment
- Vocal Jazz received a Silver Rating and Stefany Montoya best vocal soloist
- Concert Band received a Silver Rating
- Men's Chorus received a Silver Rating
- Orchestra received a Silver Rating
Our Music Academy was awarded 21 awards and received praise for best representing our school & community and with honor and humility!!! Thank you students for your hard work!

Vocal Jazz Performances 2011-12
- Vocal Jazz performed at the LA unified Superintendent's Opening Address in August,
- a Special Music Alumni presentation at a LAUSD Board meeting, Events were Televised!
- and at Biltmore Hotel's Tree Lighting Ceremony with Jazz Combo A.
- In December, Vocal Jazz caroled around the streets of Old Town Pasadena and
- also sang for LA fire department charity luncheon.
- On March 23rd Just Jazzin attended their first Vocal Jazz Festival at Fullerton College winning 3rd place in their division!

ROCK BAND 2011-12
ROCK BAND CLUB has had several special events this already this semester along with the Open Mic Lunch Performances.
On November 2nd, "Music Set Free" brought the band "Two Spot Gobi" who played for the students and led a Workshop of collaboration with 40+ students! Events includend with polyrhythmic activities, singing in 4 parts, improvisation, and how to add layers & unique instrumentation to an original composition.
On November 4th, Rock Bands Performed at Movie Night!
And on November 5th Students performed at Rock LKR Santana Event
This year the student are played at 2 events for the NAMM show which is the weekend of January 19th, 2012
On January 30th, NAMM Band played for Carlos Santana!

Guitar Foundation of America 2nd Annual Symposium!
On Saturday, November 5th students participated in workshops, rehearsals, and clinics. The day culminated in a concert that featured our Advanced Guitar Ensemble and many other special performances! For video and more information about the event Click here: GFA Symposium in LA!

First Annual GFA Regional Symposium hosted by Central LA HS
William Kanengiser GFA board member, USC Guitar Faculty, & Member of the Grammy Award Winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet directed the guitar orchestra & lead a technique workshop. CLAHS Students and GFA members performed for adjudication and then performed as a guitar orchestra followed by a recital by *GFA International Concert Artist Competition prizewinner Colin Davin. *GUITAR FOUNDATION OF AMERICA America's Leading Guitar Organization
