ROCK BAND CLUB!

Rock Band Club Meets Mondays in M110

The Rock Band Club is all about creating ensembles from students throughout the entire school  and making bands.  Students give each other lessons and then they create bands.  Bands usually consist of 1 - 2 guitarists, a bass player, a drummer and a singer.

After a your band is established you pick a song and Ms. Fowler finds the music for it and then your band gets "performance ready" acoustically either in the recital hall or in a practice room.

From 3:45-4:45 pm rock bands that are ready to perform plug in to amps, half stacks and a P.A. system and play for Ms. Fowler and for the students.  Feedback is given to make the performance stellar and then the bands perform at lunch on selected Fridays.

Select Rock Band groups will also perform at showcases, the NAMM show, fairs, festivals and on the Sunset Strip!  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Fowler at 213-217-8617

Every Child Deserves Music Education

When it comes to making sure every kid gets a first-rate education, music matters. Little Kids Rock believes that learning to play a musical instrument can be a transformative experience in students’ lives, with the power to inspire the creativity and confidence that are critical to success in school and beyond.

That’s why they've dedicated Themselves to restoring and revitalizing music education in U.S. public schools bringing free musical instruments and music instruction to underserved schools across the country.

Dr. Phil & Kris Allen visit CLAHS #9

On Saturday, Dr. Phil, his wife Robin, their son Jordan – ambassador to “Little Kids Rock Across America” – and reigning American Idol champion Kris Allen stopped by Central Los Angeles High School #9 for Visual & Performing Arts to watch a teacher training that empowered LAUSD school teachers to run unique, modern band programs.

“Every teacher could have been doing a million things this weekend, but instead they chose to come here and get trained to help these kids,” Dr. Phil said. “They all know that if they’re not there to provide the students with the leadership and to teach them, then this program is just not going to happen.”

This workshop and generous donation by the Dr. Phil Foundation will provide schools in the LAUSD with rock instruments, software and materials to run their own modern band programs. Teachers who complete the workshop will begin leading “Little Kids Rock Across America” classes this school year, helping reach more than 1,000 needy students in Los Angeles.

“Little Kids Rock Across America profoundly affects kids in a way that very often NOTHING else does,” said Desiree Fowler, a current Los Angeles Little Kids Rock teacher who has been running a pilot Little Kids Rock Across America “Modern Band” program at her school. “Little Kids Rock Across America is giving these kids something to be great at. My door is always open and students are at school, rather than on the streets, because they want to be.”
