  • Algebra 1 A/B
    The purpose of this course is to serve as the vehicle by which students make the transition from arithmetic to symbolic mathematical reasoning. It is an opportunity for students to extend and practice logical reasoning in the context of understanding, writing, solving, and graphing problems involving linear and quadratic equations (including systems of two linear equations in two unknowns). In this course, students are expected to demonstrate their ability to extend specific problems and conditions to general assertions about mathematical situations. Additionally, they are expected to justify steps in an algebraic procedure and check algebraic arguments for validity.
  • CPM Algebra 1A/B
    This Algebra 1 course is structured around problems and investigations that build the conceptual understanding of Algebra 1 topics and an awareness of the connections between the different ideas. Lessons are structured for students to collaborate actively by working in study teams. Students are encouraged to investigate, communicate their thinking, and generalize. A major focus of the course is to develop multiple strategies to solve problems and to recognize multiple ways of understanding concepts.
  • Algebra 1 Tutorial
    Algebra 1 tutorial lab is an elective mathematics course provided to students as a second course to support the core Mathematics class in Algebra 1. The course is designed to enhance the student's knowledge of prerequisite skills that are needed to access the grade level Algebra 1 course.
  • Geometry
    The Geometry skills and concepts developed in this course are useful to all students. Aside from learning these skills and concepts, students will develop their ability to construct formal, logical arguments and proofs in geometric settings and problems. Although the curriculum is weighted heavily in favor of plane (synthetic) Euclidean geometry, some emphasis is placed on coordinate geometry and its transformations.
  • Geometry Tutorial
    Geometry Tutorial Lab is an elective mathematics course provided to students as a second course to support the core Mathematics class in Geometry. The course is designed to enhance the student's knowledge of prerequisite skills that are needed to access the grade level Geometry course.
  • Honors Geometry
    This is an honors, one-year class in plane Euclidean Geometry. Initially, students will use inductive reasoning skills to discover algebraic and geometric properties. Following the logic unit, students embark on an in-depth program toward developing geometric skills and concepts. Course content will include congruent and similar triangles, lines and planes, circles, area, volume, trigonometry, construction, and transformation. Heavy emphasis is made on formal geometric proofs. Students taking this class must have the mathematical maturity, willingness and time to put into a heavy workload.
  • Essentials Standards of Mathematics
    This course is designed as a preparation for the CAHSEE with instruction (review) in pre-algebraic and introductory algebra concepts and skills that are not yet understood well enough by the student to earn a passing score. It is intended for either 11th or 12th grade students who did not pass the CAHSEE or 10th grade students whose past performance in mathematics places them in jeopardy of not passing. The course will focus on meeting the California content standards in mathematics in some selected standards from Algebra 1 and strands from Grades 6 and 7 including Number Sense; Algebra and Function; Measurement and Geometry; Statistics, Data Analysis and Probability; and Mathematical Reasoning.
  • Algebra 2 A/B
    Algebra II expands on the mathematical content of Algebra I and Geometry. There is no single unifying theme. Instead, many new concepts and techniques are introduced that will be basic to more advanced courses in mathematics and the sciences and useful in the workplace. In general terms the emphasis is on abstract thinking skills, the function concepts, and the algebraic solution of problems in various content areas. Students who master Algebra II will gain experience with algebraic solutions of problems in various content areas, including the solution of systems of quadratic equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, the binomial theorem, and the complex number system.
  • Honors Algebra 2 A/B
  • Trigonometry/Math Analysis A/B
    This course combines many of the trigonometric, geometric and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students for the study of calculus and other advanced courses. Trigonometry is covered in the first semester. Trigonometry expands on Algebra I topics and includes matrices, complex numbers, conics, logarithms, sequences and series, trigonometric functions and identities. Precalculus is covered in the second semester. Topics emphasize the analysis of functions. Graphing calculators are used throughout the course.
  • Honors Trigonometry/Math Analysis A/B
    Students taking this class must have the ability, maturity and desire to handle advanced mathematical topics. Trigonometry expands on Algebra I topics and includes matrices, complex numbers, conics, logarithms, sequences and series, and more advanced trigonometric functions and identities. Precalculus is covered in the second semester. Topics emphasize the analysis of functions. Graphing calculators are used throughout the course.
  • Honors Statistics
    All students use the TI-84 in class throughout the course for the analysis of particular problems involving large data sets. Much of the course is activity based and simulations are run frequently to understand probabilities and distributions. Statistics are regularly practiced using projects that students do in class individually or in groups and the results are written up and presented to the class.
  • AP Calculus A/B
    This course is intended for students who may have a thorough knowledge of college preparatory mathematics, including Algebra A and Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. The course stresses concepts and then techniques. Each concept is looked at graphically, numerically, analytically, algebraically and verbally. Students will learn how to express answers using the technical vocabulary of calculus and organize their solutions professionally so that the reader will clearly understand what the student has determined while solving the problem. The TI-84 calculator is used daily. Students who score 3 or more(out of 5) on the AP exam for Calculus AB may receive university calculus credit for the first semester of college-level calculus.
