The Music Academy students have been hard at work! Here are some of the performances they have participated in during Festival Season!
- Irvine Jazz Festival March 17th
- Fullerton Vocal Jazz Festival March 23rd Congrats for earning 3rd Place!
- Loyola Marymount Guitar Showcase, Masterclasses & Workshops on March 24
- PTSA Music Scholarships, Congrats to Madeleine Adragna, Jerry Briseno, Alice Shin, & Taylor Washington!
- Solo & Ensemble Festival April 14th Congrats to Guitar Trio and Jerry Briseño for their Superior Rating
- Spring Concerts April 16th-18th
- San Diego Heritage Tour April 19th-21st Took Sweepstakes!!!
- Palms Choral Festival on April 27th, Congrats to Mixed Chorus for their rating of Excellent and Chamber Singers for their Superior Rating
- LA Master Chorale High School Festival on May 4th at the Walt Disney Concert Hall
- Hosted LAUSD Instructional Instrumental Festival on May 4th Congrats Orchestra for their Superior Rating and Advanced and Intermediate for their Excellent Rating
- Hosted Scholarship auditions for music students all over Los Angeles & the Valley, Congratulations Jerry Briseno for earning one of 4 Scholarships!
- Hosted our 2nd Annual Choral Festival May 11th Congrats to Women's Chorus & Concert Choir for their Superior Ratings & to Mens Chorus
- May 19th Chamber Singers Compete in The A cappella Scholarship Festival
- May 24th is our Song Writer's Showcase
- Intermediate and Advanced Guitar Go Hamilton High School's Guitar Festival on May 25th
- Solo & Ensemble Concert will be on June 5th in the Black Box

Camerata Pacifica Music Academy Benefit Concert!
On September 21st the Music Academy Hosted an amazing night of music in alignment with our Grand Avenue Partnerships. Camerata Pacifica brings instrumental lessons to our students all throughout the year!
Women's Chorus Wins 1st Place Superior!
A cappella Scholarship Festival 2011, Women's Chorus competed against seven other amazing High School Choirs all over Southern CA and was awarded first place! Click here to see the performance!

Grand Avenue Partners & In School Opera
Since VAPA began and as a benefit of our our Grand Avenue Partnership, Students participate in a professional opera experience with sets, lighting and a stage crew provided by LA Opera when they perform for the school alongside LA Opera artists. Through engaging and lively weekly workshops, LA Opera artists teach students their roles as chorus members in "The White Bird of Poston" and in 2010 "Tanis in America"
LA Opera also provides opera going experiences for our students at least 2 times a year! Our students have on two occasions had the honor of working with the cast from these various operas, as well as attending the pre-oprea workshops with other Opera artists and musicians.
VAPA Hosts their first Music Festival!
On April 8th, VAPA held their first District Choral Festival where schools came from all over the District to share music, and perform for adjudication. Thanks to everyone that helped make our first Festival such a great event!

Music Students Perform with Theater and Dance students in
Guitar Quartet accompanies Flamenco dancers and plays for the Gala Friday night performance. Choir students sang in processional for a scene in the play as well. Congrats!

Multi-media SONG WRITER's Showcase
Don't miss out on students compositions that feature student created Visual representations of the music as well as stellar live performances. The students have composed a songs from a variety of genres from Electronic music to Flamenco.
The Showcase will be held in the Black Box on Thursday May 24th at 7pm. Tickets are only $3 and CDs of the students work will be available for purchase as well.

Music Academy Takes Heritage Sweepstakes Award!
Congratulations to all of the students that performed in this year's Heritage Tour in San Diego!
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating and a festival award for highest scoring ensemble!
- Jazz Combo received a Gold Rating! & William Cabison best soloist for his Piano performance
- Women's Chorus Received a Gold Rating & First Place
- Advanced Guitar Received a Gold Rating and the Adjudicator's Award for Instrumental Ensembles
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating
- Concert Choir received a Gold Rating and Taylor Washington best soloist for his piano accompaniment
- Vocal Jazz received a Silver Rating and Stefany Montoya best vocal soloist
- Concert Band received a Silver Rating
- Men's Chorus received a Silver Rating
- Orchestra received a Silver Rating
Our Music Academy was awarded 21 awards and received praise for best representing our school & community and with honor and humility!!! Thank you students for your hard work!
FESTIVAL SEASON 2012!
The weekends that have lead us up to our Heritage tour to San Diego have already been festival filled!

Jazz Band and Combo A & B Competed in Irvine's Jazz Festival on March 17th winning 4th place in their division (First time Jazz band goes to festival!!!)

Vocal Jazz Competed, attended workshops and concerts at Fullerton's Vocal Jazz Festival on March 23rd winning 3rd place in their division (First Vocal Jazz Festival Experience!!!!)

Advanced Guitar and the Quartet played & participated in clinics and workshops at Loyola Marymount University's Annual Guitar Festival along with groups from as far away as Washington D.C. and Las Vegas on March 24th!
VOICES WITHIN 2012
One of Our Grand Avenue Partners, The LA MASTER CHORALE AND THE MUSIC ACADEMY PRESENT. GAP partner, Voices Within, continues to Flourish! Guitar Foundation of America 2nd Annual Symposium!
On November 5th 2011 students participated in workshops, rehearsals, and clinics. The day culminated in a concert that featured our Advanced Guitar Ensemble and many other special performances! For video and more information about the event Click here: GFA Symposium in LA!
Music Festivals at Palms Middle School
Congratulations to the Advanced Band, Advanced Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra who performed in the LAUSD Band and Orchestra Festival on May 6, 2011, and to the Concert and Mixed Choirs that performed on April 29th. Advanced band Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra received a rating of Superior, and the Advanced Orchestra received a rating of excellent. All of the groups performed great. Thank you for your hard work!
Heritage Festival San Francisco 2011!

Not only did our Ensembles win some first place awards, soloist awards, and a smattering of Golds, Silvers but...
For the SECOND year in a row our Music Academy received the Esprit de corps award for best representing our school & community and with honor and humility!!!
Also, Congratulations to the Guitar Quartet & Guitar Trio for their performances at the Guitar Festival at Loyola on March 26th! Thank you students for your hard work!
Festival Season!
Seven VAPA Music Ensembles performed at and listened to their peers perform at a variety of Music Festivals all over Southern California! Students also played at the Visual Arts first Annual Opening on April 21st!
