Grand Avenue Partners & In School Opera
Since VAPA began and as a benefit of our our Grand Avenue Partnership, Students participate in a professional opera experience with sets, lighting and a stage crew provided by LA Opera when they perform for the school alongside LA Opera artists. Through engaging and lively weekly workshops, LA Opera artists teach students their roles as chorus members in "The White Bird of Poston" and in 2010 "Tanis in America"
LA Opera also provides opera going experiences for our students at least 2 times a year! Our students have on two occasions had the honor of working with the cast from these various operas, as well as attending the pre-oprea workshops with other Opera artists and musicians.

SCVA Honor Choir 2011 & 2012, & 2013
This year's SCVA concert is Saturday, November 23rd at Santa Monica High School. Tickets are $10!
Each year SCVA holds a rigorous audition process to compose a High School Honor Choir. Students have to prepare a college level aria, sight-read, sing scales and perform tonal memory assessments for their audition & we should be proud that LAUSD is sending a total of 11 students this year & last– and 6 of those are from VAPA. Each year the students are blown away with the opportunity stating that it was an intense experience that challenged and enriched them immensely. The concerts were November 19th, 2011 & November 17th, 2012 in the Barnum Hall of Santa Monica High School. Congrats!
