Choir student Opportunities
Through VAPA's GAP partnership with LA Opera over the past 4 years students are invited to various Opera performances and pre-talks and time with the artists. This year our students saw I due Foscari by Giuseppe Verdi. We have hosted and Students have been attended concerts from the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.
Music Academy Takes Heritage Sweepstakes Award!
Congratulations to all of the students that performed in this year's Heritage Tour in San Diego!
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating and a festival award for highest scoring ensemble!
- Jazz Combo received a Gold Rating! & William Cabison best soloist for his Piano performance
- Women's Chorus Received a Gold Rating & First Place
- Advanced Guitar Received a Gold Rating and the Adjudicator's Award for Instrumental Ensembles
- Chamber Choir received a Gold Rating
- Concert Choir received a Gold Rating and Taylor Washington best soloist for his piano accompaniment
- Vocal Jazz received a Silver Rating and Stefany Montoya best vocal soloist
- Concert Band received a Silver Rating
- Men's Chorus received a Silver Rating
- Orchestra received a Silver Rating
Our Music Academy was awarded 21 awards and received praise for best representing our school & community and with honor and humility!!! Thank you students for your hard work!

2012:One of Our Grand Avenue Partners, The LA MASTER CHORALE AND THE MUSIC ACADEMY PRESENT. GAP partner, Voices Within, continues to Flourish! FESTIVAL SEASON 2012!
The weekends that have lead us up to our Heritage tour to San Diego have already been festival filled!

Jazz Band and Combo A & B Competed in Irvine's Jazz Festival on March 17th winning 4th place in their division (First time Jazz band goes to festival!!!)

Vocal Jazz Competed, attended workshops and concerts at Fullerton's Vocal Jazz Festival on March 23rd winning 3rd place in their division (First Vocal Jazz Festival Experience!!!!)

Advanced Guitar and the Quartet played & participated in clinics and workshops at Loyola Marymount University's Annual Guitar Festival along with groups from as far away as Washington D.C. and Las Vegas on March 24th!

Guitar Foundation of America 2nd Annual Symposium!
On November 5th 2011 students participated in workshops, rehearsals, and clinics. The day culminated in a concert that featured our Advanced Guitar Ensemble and many other special performances! For video and more information about the event Click here: GFA Symposium in LA!

Music Festivals at Palms Middle School
Congratulations to the Advanced Band, Advanced Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra who performed in the LAUSD Band and Orchestra Festival on May 6, 2011, and to the Concert and Mixed Choirs that performed on April 29th. Advanced band Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra received a rating of Superior, and the Advanced Orchestra received a rating of excellent. All of the groups performed great. Thank you for your hard work!

Heritage Festival San Francisco 2011!
Congratulations to the Music Academy!
Not only did our Ensembles win some first place awards, soloist awards, and a smattering of Golds, Silvers but...
For the SECOND year in a row our Music Academy received the Esprit de corps award for best representing our school & community and with honor and humility!!!
Also, Congratulations to the Guitar Quartet & Guitar Trio for their performances at the Guitar Festival at Loyola on March 26th! Thank you students for your hard work!
