The highly talented Visual Arts Academy student, Benito Rojas, was awarded first prize in the photography section of the annual Music Centre Spotlight Awards ceremony. The event took place at the Ahmanson Theatre on 4/24/10.
"La Malinche" (shown above) is the subject of the La Llorona photo shoot, VAPA's first theatrical production. Benito's beautiful photograph was selected from the group of students who participated in the publicity shoot. It was a team effort, with Visual Art and Theatre Arts students taking part under professional publicity workplace conditions.
Students featured in the photograph are Jackie Ruiz (La Malinche) and Ashton Sanders (Martin Cortez). Center Theatre Group donated La Malinche's dress as well as the Aztec crown. Benito is a student in Ms. Dooley's Digital Imaging class.
