About Mr. Kwan

Mr. Wilson Kwan graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and later earned his master’s degree in education. His prior work experience included professions in the chemical industries of petroleum refining and environmental testing. But in the end, it was his profound passion for education that prompted him to change his career path into teaching. In 1999, he accepted a science teaching position at Woodrow Wilson High, a socioeconomic disadvantaged low performing inner city school in El Sereno with the Los Angeles Unified School District. It turned out that was the best career decision he ever made in his life.

Mr. Kwan taught AP chemistry and college preparatory chemistry with great success. During his tenure at Wilson High, he made remarkable difference in the lives of countless underprivileged students. His ability to integrate chemical industry experience with in-class chemistry instructions makes learning meaningful and interesting. His track record of instrumental teaching remunerated him with numerous teaching awards, most notably the 2004 the Most Inspirational Teachers Award with the Los Angeles City Council, 2006 Southern California High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year with American Chemical Society (http://scalacs.org/?page_id=846) and 2013 Jaime Escalante Advance Placement Teacher of the Year with the College Board Western Region.

In 2013, Mr. Kwan joined the amazing faculty at the renowned Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts. Currently he teaches college preparatory chemistry and honors chemistry where he continues to motivate his students to learn and achieve with the best of their ability, role model his students to become a responsible and caring citizen of our society and last but not least, teach his students to believe in themselves that through hard work and perseverance, any mission is possible!

Mr. Kwan enjoys reading, music and fine dining.  His hobbies include chess playing and singing. His favorite sports are table tennis, badminton and basketball.

b)  Gradedn science article summaries.

c)  Graded lab reports.

Don't forget that it is mandatory to have a scientific calculator with you in class.  Thank you.

Stoichoimetry Tutorial and Practice Problems

Attention Students:

Here is the link to the chemistry web site in which you can review, re-learn and work on more practice problems on Stoichoimetry.

http://www.chemteam.info/Stoichiometry/Stoichiometry-Worksheet.html

You must practice more so you will be skillful in solving stoichiometry problems.

The answers with solutions are provided on the web as well.

Stoichiometry test is on this Thursday or Friday depending on the class period.

Good luck!

Make-Up Work Opportunity Spring Semester

Attention CP and Honors Chemistry Students:

I am offering another outstanding opportunity for those of you who want to improve your grade by making up ANY of your missed works that were due, on or before Mar 17, 2017.

However, you must attend tutoring sessions (minimum one hour per week, see schedule on Mr. Kwan's web page). Upon completion, your work will be evaluated to receive up to 50% (1/2 credit) of the maximum points allowed for the specific make-up assignment.

Your parent must sign the make-up work agreement to acknowledge his/her acceptance. You must turn in to me the completed agreement form with signatures before you are allowed to proceed with your make-up works.

All make-up work and quizzes are due on or before Monday, April 17, 2017.  Any work submit after due date will not be graded.  No exception!

This is the only make-up opportunity available this semester. You must act now before it slips away!

If interested, see Mr. Kwan for the agreement form.
